Claims  Procedures Following Loss or Damage

Download Ace Marine Claims Directory - August 2003

It is important for a claim to be considered that relevant documentation be provided to allow Insurers to assess the facts and circumstances surrounding the loss.

Early receipt of appropriate documents will allow Underwriters to deal quickly with any claim and commence action against responsible Third Parties, which will positively impact our client's claims experience.

The Claim File

The following pages explain which documents are required to support a cargo claim.

  • Proof of insurance coverage at the time of loss.
  • Confirmation that damage occurred during transit
  • The extent and amount of damage
  • The chain of transportation used in order to determine which party is responsible.

It is important that when you become aware of a loss that you contact the appropriate ACE office (see Network and Claims Agents section) who will be able to assist and arrange for a Survey if appropriate.

Some documents are common and others are specific to each mode of conveyance. Click on the arrow above to view the Claims Documents menu.
